Is there a minimum age to get a loaner at most dealers? I fear I may be headed into a situation where I should get one, but am not sure if I could. I've been told some BMW dealers require a person to be 25. While I'm not rolling in dough to have a new BMW, it made me think about if I will have that issue.
I paid just as much for the car as older people, insurance is no excuse from giving me the same service!!!

generally speaking its 25. usually its because of the dealer insurance.

I'm pretty sure to borrow any car from anywhere, you have to be 25 for insurance reasons.

Maybe I can test drive a car til mine is fixed?

I've rented a car under 21 before. From a national chain

Oh. Well then...
*leaves room awkwardly*

Haha, it was hard to find someone who would. I test drove a car alone, so maybe I can try that aspect. Not wanting to be left without a car this weekend. They may say I can drive it, but I'm not too big on driving a car with undiagnosed steering issues.

It's true, many rental agencies just tack on a really annoying under 25 fee per day for the vehicle.

I assume the last thing you want is the steering to fail catastrophically while driving.

Does your insurance offer car rental coverage? Like they will cover upto $50 per day for X days for a rental? Or maybe that's only if you crash your car and not if it's just getting serviced. Idk but worth a try.

Well at least I'm half right.

I don't think so, but I can check easily. Thank you for the suggestion

And that's half the battle!

In my experience many places will wave that with a AAA membership, or if you're a smooth talker. I've rented cars 3-4 cars now under 25 and never paid the extra fee.

Good to know because I'm still 24!

Same here :)
Some are better than others, you just have to call ahead of time to make sure they'll help you out. Hertz in my experience is one of the worst about this, but Enterprise, Ace (cheap as hell), and semi-related, U-Haul are all great for under 25 drivers.
Most of the time the guys behind the counter really don't give a shit, so if you're cool to them, they seem to not have a problem waving fees.

18 is the norm here, your personal car insurance covers dealer loaners. At least that's here in Illinois.

BMW is the asshat brand, what do you expect? Who do you think they are, Lexus? Remember, this is how Lexus got popular so quickly, by giving superior customer service when the Germans told their customers to fuck off, so when LKexus came around, they told BMW et al to fuck off right back.
When I first saw the title of this thread, I thought it was going to be about old loaner cars. The Mask comes to mind:

I'm not picky about loaners, anything can be fun for a couple days!

That gives me hope! Best case, I don't need one.

I got a loaner from BMW when I was 22, last year, free of charge. Just treat it as an expectation but be understanding when it comes to scheduling the service.

Funny I rented a UHaul yesterday and the guy never even brought it up so I never knew!

Car is already there, just might take much longer than I thought it might so kinda playing it as it goes. And I do expect it!

Yep, they really don't give a shit. I rented one when I was 19, wearing old basketball shorts, a torn band shirt, and was the most hung over I've ever been. They didn't say a word ;)

More 'service oriented' or upscale dealers will give you a loaner regardless of age provided it is your car (i.e. in your name).

"you sure that's safe?"

Sometimes you can pay more for insurance if you're over 21 and under 25. Hertz does that, but in my experience 25 is the hard minimum for dealer loaners. Good luck.

I bought it from them and write the checks so I'm good there.

The dealer is still waiting to hear from corporate what they should do next. But they won't give me any idea when I can get my car, no estimate hours, days, weeks. Mu guess is theyll want to give me the car back for the weekend and I bring it back Monday.

Another option might be that you go ahead and rent a car from Hertz and then have them reimburse you for the expense.
